Panasonic launched two mini camcorders at the CES2009, one of which was SDR-S15. This is a pocket camcorder from Panasonic which shoots only in standard definition format. The camcorder is compact and can be carried easily in a pocket which makes it a very flexible option of capturing pictures while on a holiday or vacation. Panasonic SDR-S15 is a flash memory camcorder which records to SD/SDHC memory cards; making them very light weight. It weighs just 165 grams without the battery.
This ultra portable camcorder is stylish, yet sturdy, in design. It has a 2.7 inch screen and the camcorder possesses a quick recording start time of just 0.6 seconds, so you can start recording in a flash. You can shoot still photos at 640x480 pixels resolution, which is very low.
The camcorder has Panasonic's intuitive Intelligent Auto (iA) technology with the face detection feature. This feature focuses on human faces in the frame automatically. This technology will automatically select the most appropriate shooting mode, while shooting, to give good results. The intelligent scene selector will read the surrounding conditions and select the scene mode, most suitable, to give fine results. Like other camcorders, it also has optical image stabilization to take care the hand wobbles, and shakiness while shooting and there is an option to use a tripod also.
Most often used operations and features are all present on the monitor. Mode dial is mounted on the side to select different shooting modes. So, user can easily change settings and modes, all the while keeping the subject in the frame. The torch light is mounted on the top which allows shooting in dark and low light areas. Optional SD/SDHC card slots are present at the base of the camcorder; which is very essential as there is no internal memory. The base of the camcorder is also where the battery sits, which is a lithium ion rechargeable battery.
Though the camera shoots in standard definition format and not high definition, it has other good features like 10 x optical zoom and stereo sound. Also included with the camcorder is VideoCam Suite, which allows you to access the internet through USB cable. User can easily upload the videos meant for video sharing sites. You can also copy video recordings from SD memory card to a DVD disc very easily. There is an optional DVD burner, to which you can connect the camcorder, through a USB cable.
The camcorder is available in brown, black, and silver colors. It is priced at around $299. With its affordable price, compact style and range of colors, this camcorder is targeted at entry level users,
